"Zentangle zebras"
The students in 5th grade created a "Zentangle Zebra" for Safari September. We discussed zentangles and "tangling." The children looked at photos of zebras for inspiration for their drawing and watched a demo on how to draw a zebra. Once the students finished their zebra, they cut them out and created a background for them. They did a beautiful job!
"Protractor Designs"
The students in 5th grade watched a PowerPoint on the artist Frank Stella and his "Protractor Series." We discussed the uses of a protractor and the students created their own design with a protractor. They created some awesome abstract ideas!
"Abstract Landscapes inspired by kandinsky"
The 5th graders watched a Powerpoint about Kandinsky and his abstract landscapes. The children chose a realistic magazine photo of a landscape and drew it with black pastel. They used simple lines and shapes to create their landscape. The children painted their landscape with bold and unrealistic colors. I love the beautiful colors and the simple forms!
"Midnight moonlight fall landscape'
The students in 5th grade created a "Fall Landscape" with pumpkins. The children were suppose to create distance with their pumpkins or show distance by creating smaller objects in the background. We discussed highlights and shadows. They used construction paper crayons on black paper. They really turned out all unique and quite beautiful too!
"One point perspective Bridges/roads"
The 5th grade students have been working on a perspective bridge or road. We discussed one point perspective, 3-D, vanishing point, horizon line, distance, and cityscape. The children were shown several examples of one point perspective ideas. They were given a lot of free choice for their drawing. They could add color with watercolor pencils, as well as with colored sharpies. The 5th graders had some very interesting ideas for their one point perspective pictures!
"Castle value paintings"
The students in 5th grade created a detailed drawing of a castle with pencil. Some students looked at pictures for inspiration. Next they created a value painted background using one color plus black and white. They learned to mix tints and shades with their color (hue), while creating a beautiful value background. Once the background was dry, the students glued their castle down and some even created falling snow. I was impressed with how beautiful these turned out!
