I think they look GREAT!

They made "Paper Strip Sculptures" first. They used the techniques of fringing, curling, etc. to make their sculpture. Next the students were introduced to "Model Magic" and they created a bird. Lastly, we are working on "Clay Pinch Pot Animals" and they are doing a great job!
"Rizzi's Birds"
The students in Kindergarten looked at the artwork of James Rizzi. He used childlike images, simple shapes, lines, bright colors, repetition and more in his paintings! The children created a "shape bird" in which they had to repeat the same shape inside of their bird! The last step was to paint their bird with beautiful colors!
"Kandinsky's circles"
Students viewed several of Wassily Kandinsky paintings of "Concentric Circles". In class, we had a discussion on concentric shapes and Abstract Art . The children had a piece of white paper with 8 folded rectangle sections. In the first section, they made a small circle and continued making bigger circles around the small one. They learned this is called a concentric shape. The children made 7 more concentric circles in the rest of the rectangles with a sharpie. Next, the children painted each circle a different color. The last step was to paint the background around each circle. This was a great lesson to see if children could follow all the directions and a great lesson for their painting motor skills.
"Bunnies"
The children enjoyed learning how to draw a bunny hiding in the grass this week! The children drew with sharpies. They started at the bottom of the page with the grass, then the" mountain shape " for the bunny rabbit's head and continued with the rest of the body. The children added a background with trees, flowers, houses, butterflies, etc. The last step was to color with oil pastels. They were very excited to get to take their pictures home that day!

Students in Kindergarten listened to the story about "Pete the Cat" and then created their own Pete using crayons. The children made cool backgrounds for Pete and they also showed at least one of his buttons in their picture. It could even be his belly button! They enjoyed subtracting each time he lost a button and singing his song about his buttons!
"broadway Boogie Woogie"
Students in Kindergarten watched a video about "Broadway Boogie Woogie" by Piet Mondrian. We discussed the primary colors red, yellow, and blue, along with the shapes seen in the picture. The students created their own interpretation of "Broadway Boogie Woogie" by cutting out squares and rectangles for their design. The students used overlapping shapes, different size shapes and long paper strips in their picture. I was impressed by their final designs!
