"Klee Inspired Cats"
"Texture Monsters"
Kindergarten has been learning about texture in the art room! Students created texture rubbings on a big sheet of paper. Next they drew shapes to create their monsters on their texture rubbings. They cut their shapes out and glued them to a background color. They are currently adding other objects (like cotton balls, wiggly eyes, yarn, etc.) to finish creating their "Texture Monster Collage."
"Nighttime Cityscape Collages"
Most of the kindergarten classes have been working on a cityscape collage using newspaper for their buildings and colored paper for the windows. Here are a few colorful ones that are finished!
"Scarecrow paintings"
Kindergarten is learning how to draw a scarecrow with the letter U. After step by step directions, they get to paint their scarecrow and background. I think they are adorable!
"self-portrait collages'
The students drew a picture of themselves with sharpie. Then they choose 2 or 3 of their favorite colors to collage onto another piece of paper. Using tissue paper and watered down glue, the children tore the tissue paper and tried to fill in all of the white space. For the last step, the students cut out their self-portrait and glued it to their colorful background!
"Penguins on parade"
The students in Kindergarten painted stripes on a big piece of paper with tempera cakes. Some of the students picked a few colors and created a pattern, while others created a rainbow of colors. Next, the students were shown how to make a penguin on black paper. They collaged their penguins onto their striped background. I think they are adorable!
"Kandinsky Trees"
Kindergarteners viewed and discussed artwork by Wassily Kandinsky. We discussed the sizes, shapes, and colors he used in his work. The students created concentric circle trees inspired by him using small, medium, and large overlapping circles. They turned out very colorful!
"The Mixed-up Chameleon"
To collaborate with their music performance in March, the students made their own chameleon. The children listened to the story of "The Mixed-up Chameleon" by Eric Carle and then created their chameleon by adding different colors and textures to it. They added eyes, a tongue, and feet. They also colored and painted the background.
"Monet's Garden"
Students in Kindergarten learned about "the father of Impressionism"- Claude Monet. They watched a 3 minute video on his garden in Giverny, France. The students drew a Japanese footbridge, water lilies, willow trees, and plants with oil pastels. The children painted the water next with blue, purple, and pink paint. For the last step, the children painted the background with green and yellow paint. They used short, choppy brushstrokes and enjoyed this process!
"Pandas"
The children listened to the story about a panda named " Chendu" by Barney Saltzberg. He could not fall asleep! The children drew a wide awake panda with sharpie. Their panda could be sitting, rolling or even hanging upside down from their tree. They also created a bamboo grove! They made some very cute pandas.
